Conference Venue
The 38th Conference of Economists was based
around the University of Adelaide.
The University of Adelaide and surrounds
Situated between the lawns of North Terrace and
the banks of Torrens Lake, the University of Adelaide consists of
beautiful older buildings which reflect its 1874 establishment, as well
as newer architectural creations and walkways which unite the main city
campus. To its West and East are some of the iconic landmarks of
Adelaide’s heritage, Government House, the War Memorial, the
Museum, the State Library and the Adelaide Hospital. The University has
a strong tradition of excellence in teaching and research, currently
ranked at the top 1% in the world in 11 research fields.
ACE09 was based in the Napier Building,
the home of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and
School of Economics in the South Eastern corner of the campus.
Adjacent to “Napier” is Elder Hall, the recital hall
attached to the Conservatorium of Music, one of the older university
buildings. Here ACE09 staged the Opening Ceremony along with the first
of the Plenary Presentations. Lunches were served in the main Union
Building, making it easy for delegates to cross the road and take a
stroll along the Torrens.
The National Wine Centre which showcases the
importance of South Australian wine growing, is administered by the
University. Just a short walk east along North Terrace, past the
entrance to the Botanic Gardens, the Wine Centre was the venue for
the Conference Dinner on the Tuesday night.
